Large Limited Edition Royal Doulton Loving Cup. This loving cup is titled “King Henry VIII” and is numbered D6888. He was designed by William K. Harper and produced in a limited edition of 1991 in 1991 and is part of the British Royalty Collection. It was created to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of Henry’s birthday. Standing at 7 inches tall and weighing 2 lb. 14 oz; this is a large-sized jug. King Henry VIII was born in 1491 and died in 1547. His reign lasted for 38 years and while he was a talented musician, military leader, scholar and creator of the Navy, he is most remembered for his many marriages that often times ended badly for the wife. He was married six times before he succumbed to illness that led to his death. Through his marriages he moved England from a country of Catholic faith to one of Protestant after the Pope would not recognize his marriage to Anne Boleyn. Elizabeth enjoyed a long reign that surpassed even her father. Royal Doulton’s version of Henry VIII is a lovely loving cup. The different between a character jug and a loving cup is that a loving cup features two hands instead of one. On this cup it features his wives on the handles with the left handle featuring an ax, Anne Boleyn, Catherine of Aragon and Jane Seymour and the right handle featuring Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr. Henry is portrayed in middle age with a brown beard and goatee, shrewd blue eyes and a long nose. He wears a regal headpiece decorated with elaborate jewels and a white ostrich plume. He is wearing a black cloak embellished with gold designs and a large fur collar. At the base of his neck is a gold medallion with an emerald gemstone. Jackie’s Treasure and Collectibles Fast Facts.
