C1870 Pewter Art Pottey Ewer Jug – Fulham, Martin Brothers, Doulton. A fine antique pewter mounted art pottery jug in the style of Fulham, Martin Brothers or Royal Doulton and dating from the late 19th century. The stoneware jug stands on a narrow rounded foot with a pear shaped body and funnel shaped top. The jug has a loop handle and is fitted with a pewter mounted hinged lid with a raised finial. The jug is decorated with panels with incised scroll designs decorated in blue against a brown textured salt glazed ground set between blue painted panels. Further designs contained in small roundels are applied around the handle and to the neck of the jug. The jug is not marked. Dimensions The jug is 9.25 inches (24cm) tall with a main body diamter of 4.5 inches (11.5cm). It weighs 0.72 Kg. Condition The jug is offered in decent condition. There is an area of professional restoration around the top rim of the jug but this is only apparent inside the rim as it is covered by the pewter top. They are no cracks. The body has glazing faults in the form of small pock marks. For further details and condition see pictures. This Antique Doulton Lambeth 1875 Jug by Renown Artist Eliza Simmance is in excellent used antique condition. 6 tall – Approx. 3 3/4 wide at the base – Approx. 6 at widest point. This Stunning Antique Doulton Lambeth 1875 Jug. Bears the early mark of the well known and desirable artist Eliza Simmance. Eliza Simmance, as a designer, was one of the cornerstones of the change at Doultons from the High Victorian Gothic designs to simpler flowing Art Nouveau and Art Deco designs. She started work at Doultons in 1873 and finished in 1928 a period of 55 years. She worked with the illustrious Barlow Family, Arthur, Florence, Hannah and Lucy, but by 1880 she already had a staff of artists under her. On the base it has the etched initials’ES’ for Eliza Simmance and’EM’ for Emma Martin. This Antique Doulton Lambeth Jug by Renown Artist Eliza Simmance is in excellent used antique condition.
