Early 20th Century, Large Royal Doulton Art Nouveau Jug with Landscape design
A very appealing large Edwardian art nouveau Royal Doulton jug with a delightful landscape design, evidently influenced by the Pre Raphaelite art movement. Has the Doulton logo on the base which gives it the manufacture date of 1901 – 1922. Has some crazing which is to be expected. There is also a small chip to the side of the handle (see last photo) but otherwise, in excellent condition. Measurements: 16 cm across the girth and just over 31 cm high. GENUINE ANTIQUES AT TODAY’S COLLECTABLE PRICES. ROYAL DOULTON DUTCH HARLEM SERIES WARE LARGE JUG/PITCHER CREATED BY CHARLES NOKE. DELIGHTFUL CAMEO IMAGES OF COASTAL FOLK AND SCENES SET ON BRIGHT GREEN AND CREAM BACKDROP. If you are not familiar with Royal Doulton’s’Dutch Harlem’ we hope our images convey the charm and sheer beauty of this very collectable early 20th Century themed series. Charles Noke is the man associated with creating the concept of’Series Ware’ at the turn of the century… A themed pattern that can be applied to a whole range of pottery and thus offering a great range of choice for collectors. This’Dutch Harlem’ series is one of the most collectable, with its wonderful images of Dutch coastal folk and sailing boats (we’ve tried illustrate most of them on this jug in our images) all set on a bright hand-painted green and cream backdrop. T was (and still is) so popular that a version of it was produced for London’s famous Liberty Store. It was produced between 1904 and 1944, and the backstamp suggests this particular set was manufactured between 1904 and 1922 (see image 10), so it’s around 100 years old and qualifies for official antique status. This is a superb and very large survivor and we’ve demonstrated its significant size in relationship to a drinks can (see image 3). NOTE: A wonderful 14pc coffee set in the same series and from the same private family source is listed seperately. DETAIL (all measurements are approx and more detail can be provided if requested). Stands 7.5in/19cm tall, with a lip to lip diameter of 5.5in/14cm and a significant capacity of 3.5pints/ 2.1ltr. It weighs 1.1kg Condition? In spite of its age, it is in remarkably good condition with the colours still bright and as far as we can tell it’s free from chips or cracks. Otherwise, the only imperfection seems to be the inevitable age related crazing and our images show this doesn’t hinder its stunning display quality. We try to get potential buyers as close to our items as possible through our images as well as descriptions so pl ease study the photographs carefully. It has developed out of a shared passion for 20th Century Design and in particular the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods and the exciting so-called’Retro’ period of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. We are enthusiastic collectors and everything we sell has been hand-picked by ourselves at auctions and car boots etc based on its appeal and interest and current trends in collectables. It has been reassuring to discover that what we find and like has an appeal to many other people all over the World and creates a useful link for collectors.
