Vintage English Earthenware Polychrome Large Toby Jug The Squire / Wonderful
Wonderful Vintage English Earthenware Polychrome Toby Jug, “The Squire”. The glossy jug is beautifully colored. The figure wears a large-brimmed black hat. This distinctive jug depicts a thin, gaunt gentleman with a beaky nose and long lank hair down to his shoulders. He is sitting on a corner chair wearing a long coat, knee breeches and hose, neck-scarf and buckled shoes. He clutches a jug of foaming ale to his belly. The base is an unusual shape, completely flat on the underside. The interior is gray. There is no maker’s mark. The Squire Jug is modeled after a Ralph Wood Original Squire Jug. The figure is not formed with the original pipe in the opposite hand. SIZE: 11 3/4 inches high x 7 inches wide at widest part. CONDITION: The jug is in good condition with crazing — there is a small hole at the end of the jacket sleeve, left side (as made) — the base rim has a chip. The jug is in very nice condition — very clean and bright. Nice collector’s piece — with great colors. Desirable Royal Doulton Kingsware. Dewar’s Whisky Pear Shape Flask. Desirable & Highly Collectable Doulton Kingsware Sporting Squire Dewar’s Whisky Pear Shape Flask. Kingsware was developed by Charles Noke and produced between 1898 and 1939. This hard to find Doulton Kingsware SPORTING SQUIRE Dewar’s Whisky PEAR SHAPED Flask is highly collectible. Approx 9 tall, approx. 2 1/2 wide at the base, & approx. 4 1/2 at widest point. This Doulton Kingsware Sporting Squire Dewar’s Whisky PEAR SHAPED Flask is in excellent used vintage condition. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see. There are some light surface scratches and some crazing, which is normal for a piece of this age. The cork has dried out a little over time so is not a tight fit and the corkscrew is loose. Please look at all the photos for condition. Photos are part of the description. The high gloss of Kingsware makes it difficult to photograph. Additional photos can be provided upon request. This Kingsware Dewar’s Flask makes an awesome display.
