SMALL Royal Doulton SAIREY GAMP Character Jug Darley & Son Backstamp D5528. Royal Doulton character jug sairey gamp – small size – d5528 – darley & son backstamp. Because of the backstamp this is a rarely seen Character Jug. I have only seen one once before and that was over twenty years ago. This particular jug was only issued in 1936 hence the scarcity. It is in generally good condition with no chips or cracks although there is some minor crazing. There are quite a number of white flecks showing where the painter was not as thorough as they should have been but that is not unusual for a jug from this era. There is just one area that concerns me slightly and that is on her hat, to the left of her face, where there is a larger (3mm) patch of white (see picture 2) and where the surrounding area is also rough to the touch. Again, this is not unusual for a jug from this era but I do need to highlight it. She stands approximately 3.25 inches or 8.3 cm high. I have shown numerous pictures highlighting the above points and these can all be enlarged. I think the pictures plus the description above give a good indication of the condition but if I can tell you any more please ask. For more expensive items these may be the only options offered.
