The company known as Jones, Watts & Doulton began trading in 1815, becoming Doulton & Watts in 1820 after Jones left the company and then in 1853 changed to Doulton & Co after the retirement of John Watts – then of course later becoming the Royal Doulton brand we all know today. Only pottery between 1820 and 1853 bear the markings of Doulton & Watts, making this quite a rare old piece.
