The music box portion is of high quality as is the mug (or, as some may designate it, Toby jug). Auld Mac has the standard “Bang went saxpence” on the reverse of his hat. Be sure you understand that this is a display piece, NOT IMMERSIBLE IN LIQUID, so I’d recommend you NOT drink from it. These will be needed for resolving the problem. I’ll be glad to help. Highly sought after by collectors these rare pieces really are super to look at the jug it looks like a common character jug but set into the recess of the base is a Swiss Thorens musical movement in this occasion the music played is’An Irish Jig. Designed by : Harry Fenton. Issued : between 1938 and 1939 so extremely rare. It is the large size and it measures approximately 5¾ inches high. It is in very good condition no damage or wear and the music plays perfectly. It is fully backstamped as per picture. 1ST CLASS SIGNED POSTING UK……………………….. Second class signed for. Very Rare DOULTON Large THORENS MUSICAL Character Jug – AULD MAC D5889 1930s. This is a very rare Royal Doulton musical large character jug modelled as Auld Mac. The base of the jug houses a Thorens Swiss musical movement which plays “The Campbells are Coming”. This scarce piece was designed by Harry Fenton and issued only between 1938 and 1939. Stands 6¼ inches tall. The inner rim of base has a Royal Doulton backstamp with model details as shown. The musical movement has its original Thorens label. The jug is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. The musical movement is in full working order. See my other listings. For more great items!
