An attractive rare Doulton Lambeth Art Nouveau Cycling Jug. The jug has three raised panels, which are framed by stylised Art Nouveau tube lined. Each panel displays a different type of cycling. The base of the jug signed with the L W initials on its base of Louise Wakely she is listed in’ The Doulton Lambeth Wares by Desmond Eyles Publisher Hutchinson’ as a senior assistant in 1882, and retired as a designer about 1910. The central panel under the spout of the jug, is called’Road’. It shows a lady in Edwardian costume with a formal hat tipped forward on her head, riding her bicycle, with a man on either side of her cycling in sporty clothes. The panel to the right’Path’ has three riders on dropped handle bar cycles, the early days of sport and racing. The third panel’Military’ has two soldiers standing to attention by their by their cycles, wit a bugler in the back ground. Size & Condition: The jug is 7 1/2′ (19 cm) tall and 5″ (12.75 cm) in diameter at widest, and about 6 1/2″ (10.75 cm) from the tip of spout to the outside edge of the handle. The jug is in good antique condition commensurate with age, There are no chips, cracks or crazing. Have not found any restoration.
