Designed by Max Henk, issued 1959 – 1969. “Mikado” is the ancient title for the emperor of Japan, beginning with the reign of the Mikado Jimmu in 660 B. Believed by many to have descended from the all-powerful Sun Goddess, the same family line has been traced through 124 reigns.
