I have for sale, from my own private collection, an iconic Large Size Character Jug. Designed by Harry Fenton and produced in 1947 Only. Variation One with Brown Hat, with Blue Peak, Blue Coat and Pearl Buttons. This original version of’Arry’, a depiction of a London Costermonger, was soon discontinued as it was deemed that production costs were excessive. It was replaced in late 1947, by the normal brown coloured production jug. Rarely seen for sale! Fully marked to the base with the Royal Doulton Lion and Crown, First Quality. Standing at 6 1/2 ins tall. The jug is in Mint condition with no chips, cracks, glaze crazing or restoration guaranteed. A wonderful character jug , he looks fantastic on display. Excellent Collector’s condition! Mikado D6501 (black and turquoise hat, green and white robes). Designed by Max Henk, issued 1959 – 1969. “Mikado” is the ancient title for the emperor of Japan, beginning with the reign of the Mikado Jimmu in 660 B. Believed by many to have descended from the all-powerful Sun Goddess, the same family line has been traced through 124 reigns.
