RARE LARGE CHARACTER TOBY JUG. GENERAL EISENHOWER – D6937. PART OF THE GREAT GENERALS COLLECTION. Size:- Height 7. Rare Royal Doulton Character Jug, General Eisenhower D6937 (brown, khaki and green coloration). Designed by Warren Platt. Series: Great Generals, issued 1993 in special edition of 1,000. This jug was commissioned by U. International Ceramics in a special edition of 1,000. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of the U. Armys landing in Africa on November 7, 1942. Hand made and painted in Stoke-On-Trent, England. This jug is free from chips, cracks or restoration and any faults. Be assured I always use a good strong box with lots of bubble wrap and protection for a safe journey. I have for sale, from my own private collection, a wonderful and rare Art Deco Jug. Produced in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1933. Depicting a multitude of Charles Dickens Characters in low relief all of whom are listed to the base. The handle is modeled as Poor Joe’ from the novel Bleak House, with the spout as a mask in slumber. Designed by and signed by Charles Noke and inscribed’Keep any mind Green. The jug is of bulbous form and stands at 10 1/2 ins tall. Fully marked to the base with the Royal Doulton Lion and Crown. Although not a Limited Edition, it is widely believed that less than 1,000 were produced. The jug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration. There is some minor crazing to the glaze which is to be expected for a piece of this age. A wonderful Deco Jug which would grace any serious Doulton collection. A Royal Doulton Large size Prototype Character Jug of FIDEL CASTRO, from the Great Revolutionary Series Collection. This Character jug was one of our proposed jugs in the series but due to the number limit of jugs in this series it was never produced or issued. Please see photos No. 8 for complete views of the jug, colours, handle and backstamp. This Character Jug was designed by Caroline Dudd, modelled by Robert Tabbenor and prototyped painted in England. Only 5 of this character jug were ever produced as samples. With its certificate of authenticity and change of ownership. In excellent colours and perfect condition. This is a two handled jug and was issued in 1991 in a limited edition of 1991 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Henry VIII. Handles have faces of his 6 wives 3 on either side. Designed by William K Harper and was hand made and painted in Stoke-On-Trent England. Toby Character Jug (Small) “Beefeater” Royal Doulton D6233, #9120520. Authentic Royal Doulton production, made in England. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. 3.25″ high x 4″ wide (Approximate). A Toby Jug, also sometimes known as a Fillpot (or Philpot), is a pottery jug in the form of a seated person or the head of a recognizable person, often an English king. Typically the seated figure is a heavy-set, jovial man holding a mug of beer in one hand and a pipe of tobacco in the other and wearing 18th century attire. Such as this one. Depicting just the head and shoulders of a figure are also referred to as Toby Jugs, but according to experts and collectors. These should strictly be referred to as “Character Jugs”. This piece is just one of an entire collection we recently acquired from a long-time collector and come from a clean, smoke-free environment. If you are new to the world of Toby Jugs, you’ll notice lots of intricate detail in this and every piece as indicated in the photos above.
