Large Royal Doulton Character Jug D7289. This jug is titled “Vladimir Lenin” and is numbered D7289. He was designed by Caroline Dadd and modeled by Robert Tabbenor in 2009. It was commissioned by UKI Ceramics as part of The Revolutionaries Series and produced in a limited number of 100; this is jug number 22. Standing at 6.75 inches tall and weighing 2 lb. 6 oz; this is a large-sized jug. This was one of the last character jugs created before Royal Doulton ceased production of their character jug line. Vladimir Ulyanov aka Lenin was born in 1870 and died in 1924. He was a Russian politician, communist revolutionary, and head of government. He is considered one of the most significant and also polarizing figures of the 20th century- with some feeling he was a brutal dictator and others that he was a champion of the working people. While he started as a Marxist in ideology, Lenin developed his own political theories that became known as Leninism. Royal Doulton’s version of Lenin features the famed leader in middle age. He has a bald head with dark gray hair at the edges. His serious goatee and mustache and piercing gray eyes. His lips are together in a semi-smile. He was instrumental in helping Royal Doulton make the transition to Asia when they moved operations there in 2005 and to date has made more than 60 items for the character line.
