Antique Royal Doulton Lambeth Simeon Toby Jug, 1920's
This listing is for an antique Royal Doulton Lambeth Toby Jug entitled “Marriage Day”. It was made in England circa 1920. The jug is finished in a high gloss glaze. Its marked on the bottom with the Royal Doulton mark and the form number (8596). Its a flip jug providing two views of marriage. At it’s blue top are the incised words “Marriage Day” above a smiling face. When flipped over the words incised in the brown top are “After Marriage” above a frowning face. The Jug is in great condition with no cosmetic issues whatsoever. There are a couple of tiny production/mold marks but these are original to the piece and not “damage”. I tried to get pictures of these factory marks but they were too small. The designer of this piece, Harry Simeon, was one of Royal Doultons premier artists and his work is highly sought after by avid Royal Doulton collectors. There is significant background information on Simeon online. He was active in a broad array of Doultons wares and had a forty year career with the company (1896 – 1936). His work on the Toby Jug line, in particular, is some of his most collectible. If you have any questions pop me a note and I’ll get back to you in a day or so. Thanks for looking, now for the boilerplate. Buyers are responsible for additional costs i.
