Royal Doulton’Dickens Dream’ Art Deco Jug 1933 Signed Noke CRAZY PRICE

ROYAL DOULTON’DICKENS DREAM’ JUG 1933. Produced in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1933. Depicting a multitude of Charles Dickens Characters in low relief all of whom are listed to the base. The handle is modeled as Poor Joe’ from the novel Bleak House, with the spout as a mask in slumber. Designed by and signed by Charles Noke and inscribed’Keep any mind Green. The jug is of bulbous form and stands at 10 1/2 ins tall. Fully marked to the base with the Royal Doulton Lion and Crown. Although not a Limited Edition, it is widely believed that less than 1,000 were produced. The jug is in very good/excellent condition for it’s age with no chips, cracks or restoration. There is some crazing to the glaze which is to be expected for a piece of this age. A wonderful Deco Jug which would grace any serious Doulton collection. Sir Francis Drake of England was best known for being the first explorer to travel around the globe. He also helped defeat the Spanish Armada in 1588 as Vice-Admiral of the English fleet. This is the original version of the Drake character jug produced from 1940 1941. His exploits against the Spaniards made him extremely popular in England. The original version, made without a hat, was produced briefly in 1940 before being modeled into the hatted model. The original hatless version of the jug is quite rare. What a delightful antique Royal Doulton whiskey flask/jug featuring the Dicken’s character Mr. Pickwick, done in the beautiful brown Kingsware glaze of Charles Noke, in excellent condition for it’s age (about 100 years), no chips or cracks and only very light crazing. We are pleased to offer for sale, this Royal Doulton “The Phantom of the Opera” D7017, Large Character Jug, COA included. Large Character Jug- “The Phantom of the Opera”. Limited Edition: 605 of 2500. This piece measures approx. 7 inches high (Large). This is a Royal Doulton interpretation of “The Phantom”, he is wearing a black suit detailed with white flower embellishments and a white shirt and bow tie. He has long grey hair, his hat is black with a silver band. The right side of his face has a form fitting black and red mask to cover his deformity which covers his nose, around his lips and down his jaw line. He has a smirk on his lips and the piercing and tortured look in his clear blue eyes. The handle is a stage and curtain. The colors are bright and vibrant, very detailed. Condition: Pre-owned, this item is listed as “used” but is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Slight scuff marks from shelf wear on the base edge. It does not have the original box but does include the Certificate of Authenticity. Please preview all photographs as they are part of the description. Standard Royal Doulton mark with Lion standing on Crown. MADE IN ENGLAND placed in the curve beneath the crown and curves on each side half way down the logo.
