Royal Doulton The Wandering Minstrel Loving Cup By Fenton & Noke This colourful piece, designed by Charles Noke and Harry Fenton, is of a limited edition of 600 (this one being number 225) & was originally introduced in 1934. The cup is in the form of a castle with relief decorations and twin tree handles. The front depicts a minstrel. The minstrel is sat footsore on a wall with his lute and meager possessions, being barked at by a dog. The reverse depicts what appears to be the lady of the castle & her knight appearing with a page carrying refreshments. On the base is the phrase “a merryman moping mum” from a ballad sung by Jack Point in Gilbert and Sullivans operetta “Yeomen of the Guard” with details of the edition size. There is also an impressed’8076′. The Royal Doulton backstamp is the post 1932 one. Dimensions The cup has a height of 5.5 inches (14 cm), a width (from end of handle to handle) of 7 inches (17.8 cm) and a diameter of 4.5 inches (11.4 cm). It weighs 605 g. Condition The cup is in excellent condition. There are no cracks etc. There is an over-glazed small chip to the foot, this appears to be a production flaw and not restorative work. Up for sale we offer the Royal Doulton Large Size Character Jug The White Haired Clown Pattern number is D6322. This very Handsome Jug has white hair and a red ruffled collar. He is in great condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration, that we have found. The Artist was a premire modeler who made many of the Iconic Doulton Art Pottery pieces. His name was Harry Fenton. He assisted Charles J. Noke, the original Art Director at the Royal Doulton Studio’s. Fenton made over 26 Character Jugs, 15 Toby Jugs & numerous other Art Pottery pieces at the Doulton Studios. Fenton passed away in 1953 shortly after creating this magnificent “Clown” character Jug in 1951. Really one of the most beautiful Jugs made at the Doulton Factory. Royal Doulton Guy Fawkes Jug – Harry Fenton 27/600. The richly decorated circa 1935 large jug, designed by Harry Fenton, was created as a limited edition of 600, this one being the low numbered 27th piece. Guy Fawkes is depicted in relief, he is surrounded by barrels of gunpowder in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament and has just been discovered. The handle is in the form of a blazing torch. November 5th, 1605, Guy Falks, Oyez! Let it be known to all just men and citizens that a certain traitor – to wit- Guy Fawkes having with other conspirators wickedly and of set purpose plotted to blow up His Majesty’s House of Parliament with gunpowder placed in the cellars, thereof was taken de facto in the act and is herewith committed with the other traitors to be executed.
