Rare Royal Doulton'march Hare' Prototype Character Jug
The’March Hare’ original factory prototype. Modelled in a straw boater with a five shilling price tag protruding from the hatband. Aside from the different modelling, the jug is decorated in a distinctive colourway of green coat, yellow scarf with white spots, pink nose, brown whiskers, straw coloured boater with red and blue hatband. Artist: Designed by William Harper. Height: Stands 6 inches high. In mint condition , with no damage, no crazing and no restoration. As you can see from enlarging the pictures, the casting and decoration are outstanding. I have for sale, from my own private collection, a wonderful Limited Edition Art Deco Jug. Produced in 1933 only this is number 345 of an Edition of 1000. The jug depicts various characters from his plays in relief with the spout modelled as a mask of Shakespeare. The handle bears the masks of Comedy and Tragedy together with two swords. One of a series of Limited Edition Jugs produced by Doulton Burslem in the Art Deco period and designed by Charles Noke. The jug comes complete with its original Certificate of Authenticity, hand signed by Noke. Fully Marked to the base with the Royal Doulton Lion and Crown in black, together with a Shakespeare inscription and ink drawn portrait. Standing at 10 1/2 ins tall. Would make a fantastic addition to any serious Royal Doulton collection. EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH NO CHIPS, CRACKS, OR RESTORATION. There is some very light glaze crazing to the base totally commensurate with its age. The Certificate has a couple of tears which do not detract. I have for sale, from my own private collection, a wonderful and rare Art Deco Jug. Produced in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1933. Depicting a multitude of Charles Dickens Characters in low relief all of whom are listed to the base. The handle is modeled as Poor Joe’ from the novel Bleak House, with the spout as a mask in slumber. Designed by and signed by Charles Noke and inscribed’Keep any mind Green. The jug is of bulbous form and stands at 10 1/2 ins tall. Fully marked to the base with the Royal Doulton Lion and Crown. Although not a Limited Edition, it is widely believed that less than 1,000 were produced. The jug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration. There is some minor crazing to the glaze which is to be expected for a piece of this age. A wonderful Deco Jug which would grace any serious Doulton collection. EXTREMELY RARE LARGE CHARACTER TOBY JUG. GENERAL PATTON – D7026. PART OF THE GREAT GENERALS COLLECTION. Size:- Height 7. This is an extremely rare hard to find piece, Royal Doulton Character Jug, General Patton D7026 (brown, khaki and green coloration). Designed by Warren Platt. Series: Great Generals, issued 1995 in special edition of 1,000. This jug was commissioned in 1996 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of VE-Day, May 8th, 1945, by UKI Ceramics in a special edition of 1,000. Hand made and painted in Stoke-On-Trent, England. This jug is free from chips, cracks or restoration and any faults. Be assured I always use a good strong box with lots of bubble wrap and protection for a safe journey.
