I have for sale, from my own private collection, an extremely rare Character Jug. This is Variation 1 with Maroon Hat. Lime Green Feather and Blue Jacket. Produced circa 1946 and designed by Harry Fenton. Rarely seen for sale! Fully marked to the base with the Royal Doulton Lion and Crown, First Quality. Standing at 3 1/4 ins tall. The jug is in Mint condition with no chips, cracks, glaze crazing or restoration. A wonderful character jug, she looks fantastic on display. I HAVE MANY OTHER ROYAL DOULTON PIECES FOR SALE RIGHT NOW. Sir Francis Drake of England was best known for being the first explorer to travel around the globe. He also helped defeat the Spanish Armada in 1588 as Vice-Admiral of the English fleet. This is the original version of the Drake character jug produced from 1940 1941. His exploits against the Spaniards made him extremely popular in England. The original version, made without a hat, was produced briefly in 1940 before being modeled into the hatted model. The original hatless version of the jug is quite rare.
