Very rare embossed label stoneware whiskey jug. Marked Royal Doulton #9830. This item is an original, not a reproduction, free of chips, stains, cracks, scratches, hairlines, repairs, tape, glue, markings(pencil, pen or crayon), repaints or other defects UNLESS otherwise stated in the Item Condition. Royal Doulton Stoneware Jug Nelson And His Captains (Green)

Royal Doulton Stoneware Jug Nelson And His Captains (Green) A fine commemorative, wide based jug entitled Nelson and His Captains. The piece probably dates to around 1905, the centenary of the battle of Trafalgar. The base and spout are in green glaze with the body being a light tan brown. The band has a portrait to the front of Lord Nelson around this are scenes of ships and smaller portraits of his Captains – Troubridge, Collingwood, Hardy and Miller. The base has the Royal Doulton stamp and the code X6436. Dimensions The jug measure 8 inches (20cm) in height and has a diameter of approx. 5 ½ inches (14cm). It weighs 1.150Kg. Condition The jug is in wonderful condition with no cracks or chips. There is a tiny area on the lip uncovered by glaze due to a clay fold. Royal Doulton Stoneware Jug Nelson And His Captains (Brown) A fine commemorative, wide based jug entitled Nelson and His Captains. I think these were issued in 1905 as part of the battle of Trafalgar centenary celebrations. The base and spout are in dark brown glaze with the body being a lighter tan brown. The band has a portrait to the front of Lord Nelson – around this are scenes of ships and smaller portraits of his Captains – Troubridge, Collingwood, Hardy and Miller. The base has the Royal Doulton stamp and the code X6436. Dimensions The jug measure 8 inches (20cm) in height and has a diameter of approx. 5 ½ inches (14cm). It weighs 1.150Kg. Condition The jug is in wonderful condition and is free from damage. There is a small firing crack where the handle meets the jug (see photo). Lambeth stoneware piece produced approx. 1875 as stated o backstamp. Doulton Lambeth, England backstamp and the monogram GT for George Tinworth. In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration but has beened drilled on the base for a lamp at some point in its long life. Item non returnable unless misrepresented. FACTS ON HARRY SIMEON who worked for Doulton 1896 – 1936: Harry Simeon, was one of Doultons most versatile and talented artists and many Doulton collectors are impressed by the diversity of his designs.. After his studies were complete. Harry joined Doultons Lambeth studio in 1896.. Harrys bold linear designs were ideally suited to the raised tube-lining and pigment brush line methods used at Doulton in the early 1900s.. He designed an extensive series of tobies, tobacco jars, ash pots, ink wells and candlesticks.. The stoneware toby jugs made at the Lambeth factory were also modeled by Harry Simeon. His inventiveness showed at its most brilliance in the range of Toby wares he began in 1924, when he took the traditional English Toby jug. Keen toby jug collectors seek out all the different color and modeling variations that exist in this popular series from all around the world. Simeon’s asssociation with Doulton came to an end in 1936. A few years ago the Victoria and Albert Museum in London were delighted to receive a collection of Harry Simeon’s work from his daughters. So Harry Simeon is well represented at this world famous museum. This fabulous, small stoneware piece features the olive green top of this jug showing the words Marriage Day above a smiling face. When flipped over, the brown reveals the words After Marriage inscribed above a frowning face.. Impressed Doulton markings on the bottom of the character jug along with numbers 8595..
