A cigar forms the handle to this jug. The back stamps read : Royal Doulton Tableware Limited 1983 D6710 The Celebrity Collection by Royal Doulton A hand made, hand decorated series Groucho Marx “Ive worked myself up from nothing to a state of extreme poverty” Dimensions The jug stands at 7 inches (18cm) the base measures 6 inches (15cm) at its widest point. This piece weighs 715g. Condition The jug is in good condition with no chips. There is a hairline crack on the inside of the jug. What makes this set special is the stand comes with it – traditionally these stands were meant to hang on a wall (which was a silly idea – and some fell off and onto the floor), however the collector we got the set from has had the presence of mind to make a timber base the stand now sits in, so it presents the set of 12 jugs on the stand and the whole set can be safely displayed as intended in your display cabinet! 19th Century Doulton & Watts Lambeth Lord Nelson Bust Mug. A mid-19th Century mug in the form of a bust of Lord Nelson. The base reads. The jug has a height of 6.3 inches (16cm), a length of 4 inches (10.25cm)and a width of 4 inches. Royal Doulton The Wandering Minstrel Loving Cup By Fenton & Noke This colourful piece, designed by Charles Noke and Harry Fenton, is of a limited edition of 600 (this one being number 225) & was originally introduced in 1934. The cup is in the form of a castle with relief decorations and twin tree handles. The front depicts a minstrel. The minstrel is sat footsore on a wall with his lute and meager possessions, being barked at by a dog. The reverse depicts what appears to be the lady of the castle & her knight appearing with a page carrying refreshments. On the base is the phrase “a merryman moping mum” from a ballad sung by Jack Point in Gilbert and Sullivans operetta “Yeomen of the Guard” with details of the edition size. There is also an impressed’8076′. The Royal Doulton backstamp is the post 1932 one. Dimensions The cup has a height of 5.5 inches (14 cm), a width (from end of handle to handle) of 7 inches (17.8 cm) and a diameter of 4.5 inches (11.4 cm). It weighs 605 g. Condition The cup is in excellent condition. There are no cracks etc. There is an over-glazed small chip to the foot, this appears to be a production flaw and not restorative work. A very good example: bright, no obvious glaze crazing. The only imperfection is an area inside the lip where the glaze seems to be rougher, or absent, and there is a fine line in the glaze nearby which is not a crack. The item has a good ring to it when flicked. This inner glaze issue is the only fault that I can see. Please see photographs.
