
Royal Doulton Toby Jug THE YACHTSMAN D6820 Large England Vintage 1988 76 of 750 This jug is the 1988 edition and was limited production. This jug has a handwritten number on the bottom that says 76. They only produced 750 of this particular jug. This jug is modelled by Stanley James Taylor. #D6820 The Yachtsman was created to commemorate the first Canadian Doulton show in Durham, Ontario Canada. This jug is in pristine condition, clearly hand painted as you can see the brush strokes. Absolutely NO chips, cracks, or stains. Please view all pictures for item details. Measurements 7in Tall 4in x 3 1/2in spout and a 5 3/4in x 4in Base A little history of Toby Jugs. There was a man named Henry Elwes who lived in England in the 18th Century. He was known for being a heavy drinker. He was given the nickname Toby Fillpot after he drank 2,000 pints of Yorkshire Ale. Apparently the name was inspired by an English drinking song called The Brown Jug and when Henry (Toby) died they took his ashes and made them into Tobys Jug.
