Musical jugs are amongst the most rare Doulton collectables because very few were made. There were only six jug models made – Auld Mac, Old Charley, Paddy, Tony Weller and both the brown and yellow version of Old King Cole. They look like the large jug version with a slightly extended base to accomodate the Thorens music mechanism. The music tune is appropriate to the jug. The jugs were introduced in the late 1930’s and discontinued by 1945. The musical jug Old King Cole is very rare and only a few come on the market each year. Designer: Harry Fenton and Leslie Harradine. Condition: Outstanding example with no chips, no cracks and no repairs; relatively little crazing. Thorens Music mechanism: working properly.
