Up for sale is a Vintage Limited Edition Royal Doulton The Dickens Jug. This item is fully marked at the bottom it is numbered 571 of a limited production of 1000. Dont let it go!! Estimated to have been made in England during the 20. The jug is fully marked at the bottom. 10.5 tall; 11 wide. The jug shows some crazing; there are not hairlines, cracks or restorations to note; colours are rich and vivid. Please note that this is an old item; therefore you should not expect to have a new or an in perfect condition looks. This item is from the past and does have a history. Part of its beauty is the history behind it and the fact that it is a living treasure from the past that has managed to survive the test of time! FACTS ON HARRY SIMEON who worked for Doulton 1896 – 1936: Harry Simeon, was one of Doultons most versatile and talented artists and many Doulton collectors are impressed by the diversity of his designs.. After his studies were complete. Harry joined Doultons Lambeth studio in 1896.. Harrys bold linear designs were ideally suited to the raised tube-lining and pigment brush line methods used at Doulton in the early 1900s.. He designed an extensive series of tobies, tobacco jars, ash pots, ink wells and candlesticks.. The stoneware toby jugs made at the Lambeth factory were also modeled by Harry Simeon. His inventiveness showed at its most brilliance in the range of Toby wares he began in 1924, when he took the traditional English Toby jug. Keen toby jug collectors seek out all the different color and modeling variations that exist in this popular series from all around the world. Simeon’s asssociation with Doulton came to an end in 1936. A few years ago the Victoria and Albert Museum in London were delighted to receive a collection of Harry Simeon’s work from his daughters. So Harry Simeon is well represented at this world famous museum. This fabulous, small stoneware piece features the olive green top of this jug showing the words Marriage Day above a smiling face. When flipped over, the brown reveals the words After Marriage inscribed above a frowning face.. Impressed Doulton markings on the bottom of the character jug along with numbers 8595.. Uncatalogued Royal Doulton Character Jug Pearly Girl In White’A’ Stamp. This is a Royal Doulton character Jug of the Pearly Girl. This is the small version of the rare jug, which began to be issued in 1946, and was designed by Harry Fenton. Pearly Girl is the female counterpart of Pearly Boy. The handle of this jug is a hat feather. The more common Pearly Girl jugs wear a blue or brown jacket and a pink or maroon hat which makes this particular piece exceptional as it is in the white. The’A’ stamp confirms it as being a “Pearly Girl” rather than the similar “‘Arriet”. The Charlton Standard catalogue (10th edition) of Royal Doulton Jugs has a white glaze Pearly BOY mentioned as’Extremely Rare’ with no price guide. In the same guide there is no mention of the a White glaze Pearly GIRL so would rate beyond’Extremely Rare’. Dimensions The piece measures 3.5 inches (8.7cm) wide, 3 inches (7.5cm) deep and 3.5 inches (8.7cm) in height. The jug weighs 132 grams. Condition As can be seen, there is a small firing crack on the interior of the jug – it does not show through to the other si de. This would be one reason why it is not colour glazed – see below. The jug is otherwise in good order with no cracks, chips or crazing. White Jugs There are three possible reasons why white Royal Doulton toby jugs may exist. According to Doulton & Co. The majority of these white jugs are found with underglazed chips or cracks. Please see further images below..
