A Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug dating to the early 20th Century with Art Nouveau styling. Mottled olive green body with high gloss finish. Applied swags in blue and tan. Impressed marks to the underside. Very good order with no damage. Minor glaze flaws as usual for these items. Height 17 cms (6.6 inches). Width 6.5 cms (2.5 inches) at rim. Approximately 5.5 tall, no damage. This is true Silicone Ware (made in the 1890’s) and is marked as such. Silicon ware is very sturdy. Further evidence of dating is the makers numbering system. This piece has what is called a “C” number see photo with mark “6687C”. Other pieces are created as late as the 1920’s with less quality. There was much interest at that time in the ancient world and its pottery as excavations were being carried out around the Mediterranean. Hence the Greek Frieze style. 0424 Doulton Stoneware Jug. An early 20th century Royal Doulton stoneware Slaters Patent jug style vase. It has a deep green glaze inside the rim. The exterior with the Slaters design has tan, blue, white and gold detail and is a particularly attractive form. The textures were created by impressing lace fabric into the clay before firing. It has an applied strap handle and the base has the Doulton impressed marks. Very good for period, minor wear only.
