Royal Doulton Toby Jug or MugCATHERINE OF ARAGON D6657 Small Made in England Issued in 1975 Vintage Royal Doulton Toby Jug/mug of CATHERINE OF ARAGON D6657 Catherine of Aragon was Queen of England as the first wife of King Henry VIII from their marriage on June 11, 1509 until their annulment on May 23, 1533. This jug is in pristine condition, clearly hand painted as you can see the brush strokes. Absolutely NO chips, cracks, or stains. Measurements are; 4″ Tall, 2 1/4″ X 2″ spout, and 4″ x 2 1/2 Base A little history of Toby Jugs. There was a man named Henry Elwes who lived in England in the 18th Century. He was known for being a heavy drinker. He was given the nickname Toby Fillpot after he drank 2,000 pints of Yorkshire Ale. Apparently the name was inspired by an English drinking song called The Brown Jug and when Henry (Toby) died they took his ashes and made them into Tobys Jug.
