Rare Royal Doulton Mad Hatter yellow bow tie collorway Small size 3 3/4” tall character jug. Made for the Higbee Co. In 1987 in a limited edition of only 500 of which this is # 422. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or glaze crazing but I have to mention a tiny glaze rough spot behind the left ear of the mouse handle made in production. Rare Royal Doulton Kingsware He’s a Jolly Good Fellow Whiskey Jug / Flask. This lovely rare Royal Doulton Kingsware Globular Whiskey flask / jug titled He’s A Jolly Good Fellow. It has the printed Royal Doulton backstamp partly rubbed and its stopper. I have taken pictures all around the fabulous ultra rare jug and paid extra for zoom and enlargement so you can see that the the stylish jug has no chips, cracks, or restoration. This is a rare Royal Doulton Jackdaw of Rheims jug. This is one of the Inglosby legends written by Richard Harris Barham in 1840. This is a tall water jug with unique swivel lid in EPNS. On one side of the lid is a metal knop whilst the other has a bird. Perfect condition and a rare item. Musical jugs are amongst the most rare Doulton collectables because so few were made over very short time period. The jugs were introduced in the late 1930’s and discontinued by 1945, however because of World War II, the actual number of years they could have been produced is two to three years. There were only six jug models made – Auld Mac, Old Charley, Paddy, Tony Weller and both the brown and yellow version of Old King Cole. They look like the large jug version with a slightly extended base to accommodate the Thorens music mechanism. The music tune is appropriate to the jug. The musical jug Old King Cole is very rare and few come to market each year. Designer: Harry Fenton and Leslie Harradine. Condition: Outstanding example with no chips, no cracks and no repairs; relatively little crazing. The Thorens music mechanism is working properly. Modelled in a distinctive straw boater with a five shilling price tag protruding from the hatband as opposed to the simpler approved hat with barley stalks in the hatband (as shown above). This version was presumably rejected due higher production costs. Aside from the different mould, the jug is decorated in a distinctive colourway of green coat, yellow scarf with white spots, pink nose, brown whiskers, straw coloured boater with red and blue hatband. Designed by William Harper. Stands 6 inches high. With no damage, no crazing and no restoration. As you can see from enlarging the pictures, the casting and decoration are outstanding.
