Royal Doulton’Dickens Dream’ Art Deco Jug 1933 Signed Noke

ROYAL DOULTON’DICKENS DREAM’ JUG 1933. Produced in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1933. Depicting a multitude of Charles Dickens Characters in low relief all of whom are listed to the base. The handle is modeled as Poor Joe’ from the novel Bleak House, with the spout as a mask in slumber. Designed by and signed by Charles Noke and inscribed’Keep any mind Green. The jug is of bulbous form and stands at 10 1/2 ins tall. Fully marked to the base with the Royal Doulton Lion and Crown. Although not a Limited Edition, it is widely believed that less than 1,000 were produced. The jug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration. There is some crazing to the glaze which is to be expected for a piece of this age. A wonderful Deco Jug which would grace any serious Doulton collection. PLEASE BE AWARE I CANNOT SEND TO RUSSIA. FACTS ON HARRY SIMEON who worked for Doulton 1896 – 1936: Harry Simeon, was one of Doultons most versatile and talented artists and many Doulton collectors are impressed by the diversity of his designs.. After his studies were complete. Harry joined Doultons Lambeth studio in 1896.. Harrys bold linear designs were ideally suited to the raised tube-lining and pigment brush line methods used at Doulton in the early 1900s.. He designed an extensive series of tobies, tobacco jars, ash pots, ink wells and candlesticks.. The stoneware toby jugs made at the Lambeth factory were also modeled by Harry Simeon. His inventiveness showed at its most brilliance in the range of Toby wares he began in 1924, when he took the traditional English Toby jug. Keen toby jug collectors seek out all the different color and modeling variations that exist in this popular series from all around the world. Simeon’s asssociation with Doulton came to an end in 1936. A few years ago the Victoria and Albert Museum in London were delighted to receive a collection of Harry Simeon’s work from his daughters. So Harry Simeon is well represented at this world famous museum. This fabulous, small stoneware piece features the olive green top of this jug showing the words Marriage Day above a smiling face. When flipped over, the brown reveals the words After Marriage inscribed above a frowning face.. Impressed Doulton markings on the bottom of the character jug along with numbers 8595.. Royal Doulton – Character Jug – US Wars – World War I. This Character Jug depicts a U. Army private from World War One. The handle lists the official starting and ending dates of the war and incorporates other symbolic icons such as the R. Lusitania — the sinking of which played a role in the U. S entry into the war. An entrenching tool illustrates the use of trench warfare and the gas mask (on the back) was a critical defense against poison gas — one of the most feared and longest remembered horrors of the war. Exclusive to the U. Limited Edition of 350, this one being No 206. Measurements – Standing approx 18cm tall and 19cm wide. In excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration. Large Royal Doulton Character Jug Set. Comprises The Antique Dealer D6807. These jugs were made in 1988 in a limited edition of 5,000. All three are numbered 63 and signed by Kevin Francis. They measure between 6.25″ (15.9cm) and 7.25″ (18.4cm) tall. The are First quality with no chips, cracks or restoration.
