Royal Doulton Catherine Of Aragon D6643 Vintage Large 6 7/8 Toby Jug 1975-89. This is in Excellent Condition with No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Very Nice Royal Doulton Toby Jug. Maslankowski this is titled Catherine Of Aragon and has a castle tower for the handle. This was issued from 1975 to 1989. This measures 6 7/8″ High x 4 1/8″ Wide rim to rim. I have provided a lot of pictures to best describe the condition of this Jug. (The pictures are of the exact piece you will receive). Photography Props & photo stands are not included. Royal Doulton Toby Jug or Mug CATHERINE HOWARD D6692 Small Made in England. Vintage Royal Doulton Toby Jug/mug of CATHERINE HOWARD D6692 It was modelled by Peter A. Catherine Howard was Queen of England from 1540 until 1542 as the fifth wife of Henry VIII. She was beheaded and died February 13, 1542. This particular mug is quite rare due to the size. She is considered a small size at 4 tall. I have not seen any of this size with this model number. This jug is in pristine condition, clearly hand painted as you can see the brush strokes. Absolutely NO chips, cracks, or stains. Measurements are; 4″ Tall, 2 1/4″ X 1 1/4″ spout, and 3 3/4″ x 2 1/2 Base A little history of Toby Jugs. There was a man named Henry Elwes who lived in England in the 18th Century. He was known for being a heavy drinker. He was given the nickname Toby Fillpot after he drank 2,000 pints of Yorkshire Ale. Apparently the name was inspired by an English drinking song called “The Brown Jug” and when Henry (Toby) died they took his ashes and made them into “Toby’s Jug”. Catherine Howard was King Henry V III fifty wife. King Henry V III had six wives. On July 28, 1540 King Henry V III and Catherine Howard married. Catherine Howard was the niece of Thomas Cromwell, Earl of Essex. Duke of Norfolk, Thomas Howard just sixteen months after Queen Catherine and King Henry V III marriage accused Catherine of dalliances before and after her royal marriage to King Henry V III. Queen Catherine was informed of the allegations against her on November 6, 1541. King Henry V III abruptly left Hampton Court never to see his fifth wife Queen Catherine again.
