Here is a rare example of a Royal Doulton’Old Charley’ musical toby jug, believed to have only been produced between 1938 and 1939 (Pattern D5858). It is larger than the usual small’Old Charley’ character jugs seen advertised: height to top of handle 15cm (6in), width across handle to spout 17.5cm (7in), shortest measurement across rim 12.5cm (5in). The base contains a Thorens Swiss musical movement that plays a tune when the jug is lifted up – the original factory label warning not to immerse the movement in water is still present. The rim of the base is marked with’Royal Doulton – Made in England’ and also the title of the tune. Heres a Health unto His Majesty. The jug is in very good condition with no chips or obvious cracks or crazing in the glaze. The wooden cover to the musical movement shows some signs of wear around the winder. The musical movement still works well. If you have any questions just message me. For sale are these stunning antique Corolian Ware jugs. Made by Royal Doulton Burslem. In a striking deep flow blue with hand painted flowers and gilt detail. They both have the same number RA17550D to the base. This is a Robert Allen design mark and dates them between 1892 – 1897. Although the shapes are identical the decoration is different to each. One of the jugs carries an additional number a8532. Corolian Ware was only made by Doulton between 1891 to 1902. In brilliant undamaged condition as you can see. The bases are a little crazed but they are otherwise good for their age. Measure approx 13.5 x 9.5 cm. Thank you for looking. A rare collection of character jugs that was collected by my late Uncle and given to me by family. Authentic collection including Royal Doulton made in England, Character Jugs from Williamsburg and Staffordshire Made in England Toby jug. There are 11 pieces in total! They are in very good condition for their age, although please view photos as some of the items have marks/chips out of the bottom. Porthos (One of the Three Musketeers) has a chip out of the back of his hat, please view picture 10. Picture 1 shows the entire collection facing forward. Picture 2 shows the back of the jugs in the same position turned around. The list below shows pictures of the bottom of the jugs and the names of the characters you will be purchasing.
